Q. Shortly after I applied the Tuf Top it rained (maybe 4-6 hours after application) what should I expect?
A. In most cases the paint will start coming up in isolated areas, these areas are usually found in “Low Spots” or areas where water ponds and has an extended evaporation time. The best course of action is to let the surface dry completely, this may take up to two days depending on the intensity of the rain. Once the surface and Paint is dry, check the adhesion with duct tape. You can achieve this by applying the duct tape to the surface of the paint, then pulling the tape briskly off of the paint. If any paint comes off onto the tape that indicates that the paint is not well adhered to the surface of the concrete or previous coating. From there you will need to Pressure Wash the affected areas with a pressure washer of no less than 3000PSI. After pressure washing let the area dry for at least 24 hours, after adequate dry time you may re-apply the Tuf Top as per label and data sheet instructions.
Q. I want to apply Tuf Top but I have some cracks in my concrete. Is it OK for me to use any caulk or patch to fill these cracks?
A. When patching under Tuf Top there are a few different options, typically the best and easiest option is to use a Cementitious compound. These compounds are usually found at your local hardware or paint store. For a more in-depth and complete list of patching solutions please consult this document.
Q. I put Tuf Top down a couple days ago and it’s still tacky when I walk on it or touch it, will it ever dry?
A. This is a common occurrence during the winter months with many of our products, cool temperatures slow the drying process. Although the temperature may be adequate at the time of application (70 Degrees), temperature drops following the application will extend the drying process. For a more in-depth statement on these temperatures please refer to this document.
Q. What Primer should I use under Tuf Top? Should I use a Primer before applying the Tuf Top?
A. Tuf Top only recommends using the PSC Primer in tandem with the Tuf Top Water Cleanup Floor and Driveway Enamel over BARE UNPAINTED CONCRETE. Tuf Top does NOT recommend using any competitor’s primer under any Tuf Top products. Tuf Top’s products are specially designed to adhere to any compatible coating and well prepared bare concrete, therefor does not need a primer in almost all circumstances. If a Tuf Top product is applied over a competitor’s primer it is void of all warranty and support from Tuf Top.
Q. I was told that I should always use a sealer over any paint so I can increase the “Shine/Gloss” and lifespan. Is this true?
A. False. All of our products are formulated to be the strongest and best looking coatings on the market. Sealers are typically recommended in order to hide imperfections or weakness of the base coat. With Tuf Top we only recommend our coatings, we don’t need a sealer to hide anything. With two coats you get a great gloss look, fantastic durability and a lifespan that isn’t found anywhere else. If you still aren’t sold on these claims and still MUST have a sealer, we offer our Crystal Seal Water Based Sealer and our Silicone Acrylic Clear Sealer.
